chongok yangwonri

Yangwonri

yangwonri cupmark This huge dolmen (above) is located in yangwonri, chongok, yonchon, in the north of seoul, korea. It is on the hillside surrounded by mountains, near the paleolithic resident at chongok (says like zone-gok). Coverstone, 4.3m x 3.3m x 3.3m x 3.6m square (5.6m long) , looks like the shape of shield, covered on two prop stones. Coffin room lying on the north-east 60 degrees, at a right angle to the direction of hill. Prop stones inclined to the east at an angle of 40 degrees, of which the top was cut at a right angle, so maybe it was standing up right. Tatal height is 1.4m, and I can find a cupmark on the coverstone.

Most of table dolmens are inclined to the mountain side, not to the river side, but normally trees are inclined down to the river side, because of the earth flow. So I guess that prop stones are put into the harden earth at the mountain side, or put it on with a balance of the power, which is taken a load off the prop stones.
