"This menhir is typical of the megalithic culture of the Bronze Age. It was probably either used as a boundary marker or as an object of worship. One of the largest in Korea, it is 4.5m high and 2m around. Artifacts, include plain coarse pottery and stone implements, found while clearing the area east of this menhir support the theory that it dates from the Bronze Age." (quatation from information board)

This is located on the hill at changpyongri (shindong), near Taegu, Korea. The name is called 'shindong eepsok', 'Eepsok' or 'Sondol' in korean means a standing stone. You can find it beside of 'zeshil' (confucian house, now closed) on the east hill of changpyong ri. The front side of it faced to the south. This site looks like a hand with a sword. The shape of the menhir looks like a sword, the typical korean bronze dagger which was found in korean peninsula in the bronze age. It was broken once, on which characters were carved probably in Chosun Period, and joint them now.

There are no more than 40 cupmarks in the area of 3.5m x 30Cm on the ground rock in the back of menhir, of which 11 groups are connected two or three by a engraved groove. Figure cross on the right side of it is also found, but I think it has no meaning. All of them would be made in the south end of the rock, facing to the north, I think. There are several types of cups ; well done, half done, unfinished, so I can guess how to make these cups, that was picked by the awl and ground.
