Sanchong Pyramid1

This stone step pyramid is placed on the east slope of the narrow valley in the Mt. Wangsan(923m), near Mt. Zhiri(1915m), which is in hwakyeri, sanchong at the middle of Taegu and Kwangju, korea. It measures about 20m wide and 7.15m high, the edged oval stone mound is on the top of 7 steps pyramid. It looks like a half pyramid is thrust into the slope of mountain, but never buried.

It has been alleged as the grave of king kuhyong just because the legend since 150 years ago, who is the last king of 'Kaya' or 'Karakuk' surrendered his throne to 'Shilla' in AD 532. And history book 'Sam-kuk-u-sa' says king Munmu of Shilla in AD 661 announced that king 'kuhyong' is his ancester. This pyramid structure of king's grave is really differant from the earthen mound of kaya at that periods. This above document means that King 'Munmu' had found and confirmed which grave is of 'kuhyong'. So I think, it could be constructed before or regardless of the 'kaya' periods(AD 42~532). The tomb stones, the shrine and the other annexes are known to have been added long after the build-up the grave.
