Ulsan Cairn
This huge cairn on the east slope is located in unhyonri, wungchon,
ulsan, korea. It looks like a destroyed pyramid or an unfinished pyramid,
but closed to a hemisphere cairn, it measures 20m wide and 6~7m high.
About 80Cm wide stones were dumped on the stone foundation in square
which faces the east an angle of 70 degrees. It was surrounded with 1m
high stone wall at a distance of 40m behind of it in 'U' planar figure.
But the north wall of it was destroyed by the construction of storing
reservoir. Another wall in a half circle plan attach to the west wall,
which is at the south-west corner of cairn. It looks like a remain of
an annex for performing a religious service. But this special cornerwise
plan is different from the typical plan of the 'Samkuk' periods(around
1st millennium, Anno Domini ~) which is recorded history in books.
There is numerous, over 10000 cairns, pyramids and tumulus
around Ziban(Zian) in china now, which was the ancient capital city of
'Kokuryo', as the northern nation of korean peninsula, this cairn
is similar to one of it. But there was so many other nations in there
before 'Kokuryo' in 'Samkuk' periods, whose is different tribe from
chinese. For an example, an enormous 22m wide cairn(photo on the right)
in lingyuan, liaoning, at the north of Pohai gulf, was excavated in
1983~1985, which remains are identified as of BC 3500.
