that could enhance in-service training for non-DoDDs school professional staff. Seoul International School (SIS) and Sacred Heart were invited to join. Dr. James Wootton was elected first KORCOS President. The first formal in-service was held in SFS in March 1974. |

A workshop was convened at KCA. SFS hosted a one-day workshop for faculty. At this time, KITE Day or Educators' Day was born. |

KORCOS was reborn. Dr. Ronald Richter was elected President. He continued to serve as President in 1989. Conference Co-Coordinators were Karen Link of SFS and Alice Lavina of Seoul Academy. SFS hosted the Spring Conference. Job-alike groups were organized. The Fall Conference was held at the Hotel Intercontinental and coordinator was Cindy Farley. Conferences still followed the Educators' Day format. In 1990, Pat Lee served as coordinator. |
| 1991 to 1994 | Years of CHANGES, EXPANSION and more SUCCESS![]() |
1991 saw KORCOS take a bold step into an assembly type of conference setting.
Jean Brouer was coordinator. The conference theme for 1992 was "Resources Within Reach" emphasizing the fact that expertise needed for sharing could be just around nearby corners. Rick Neumann served as coordinator. In 1993, the conference theme was "Cultural Links Through Education." For the first time, embassies participated in the exhibits: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. The Intercontinental Travel Services, Inc. donated a round trip ticket to fly in one of the conference resource persons from the U.S.A. The first conference newsletter was released. Program Coordinator (Vice President and Historian) was Alice Lavina. 1994 held the theme "Learn Earth C.A.R.E." in which C.A.R.E. meant Conserving and Recycling Earth/Environment. Program coordinator was Priscilla Kumpe. Alice Lavina was President. The KORCOS Professional Development Scholarship was founded and the first scholars were Barbara Coady now (Dow) and Richard Huyge. |
| 1995 | KORCOS is here to stay | The theme this year was "Connecting the World." Parents participated in the conference. PDK and the DoDDs of Korea were represented at the conference by invitation. Job-Alikes were revived. Tim Gray was Conference Coordinator. Alice Lavina was President. |
| 1996 | KORCOS on new ventures | This year's theme was "New Directions" with strands for special needs and technology. For the second time, KORCOS was held in a hotel. The Conference Coordinator was Paul Sheppard. Alice Lavina was President. |

More great things have happened to KORCOS! Educators' Day has been dessolved and its funds were transfered to KORCOS for the purpose of helping put up another excellent conference of international educators in the Republic of Korea. The conference aptly named KORCOS-EDUCATORS' 1997 was held on October 24 at the Seoul American High School. Sammy Mounts was Conference Coordinator and Joe LeMire was Logistics Coordinator. The strands for this year were: School-Home Connection and Technology. Alice Lavina was President. |
